Lake Monsters, A's extend contract

The Vermont Lake Monsters and Oakland Athletics have agreed to a two-year player development contract extension that will run through 2016.

The Lake Monsters, which has been an affiliate of the Athletics since 2011, play in the Single A New York-Penn League.

"We are excited to continue our relationship with the Oakland Athletics," said Vermont Lake Monsters Vice President Kyle Bostwick in a news release. "Our working partnership has been incredible since day one and we are excited to be able to continue to see our guys develop and contribute at the Major League level with Oakland."

The Lake Monsters, which plays their home games at Centennial Field on the University of Vermont campus in Burlington, finished the 2014 season last week with a record of 33-43

"We are pleased to extend our partnership with the Lake Monsters," said A's Vice President and General Manager Billy Beane. "The support by the Vermont ownership group and the Burlington community has been outstanding. We look forward to continuing our relationship."
