Teen dies in ATV accident

WASHINGTON – Vermont State Police say a 17-year-old boy from the town of Washington died following an all-terrain vehicle crash on a dirt road on Saturday.

Joey Laquerre, a local racecar driver who competed at Barre's Thunder Road, was rushed to Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, where he died shortly after the 12:50 p.m. crash, Detective Lt. Lance Burnham said.

The teen was alone on his machine, but traveling with a group when he went off West Corinth Road near Dow Road and struck a tree, State Trooper Brandon Degre said.

Laquerre was ejected off his vehicle, Degre said.

Both the Washington Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene and helped transport the teen to the Berlin hospital, where he later died, police said.
