Hillary Clinton said she supports a moratorium on the extraction of fossil fuels from federal land.

Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speaks during a canvas kickoff event at the YWCA of Manchester on Feb. 5 in Manchester, New Hampshire. With less than one week to go before the New Hampshire primaries, Hillary Clinton continues to campaign throughout the state.

Clinton's support of a moratorium came to light Friday when a man questioned Clinton about her stance on oil, coal and gas company leases on federal land at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire.

"I would support a moratorium because there are legal issues we have to work through," Clinton said in a video posted to 350 Action.

Fossil fuel came up when Clinton called Bernie Sanders out at the previous night's MSNBC debate for carrying out an "artful smear" rather than talking about the issues.

Sanders fired back with a list of issues that he wanted to talk about including the influence of lobbyists and campaign contributions.

"You think it has anything to do with the huge amounts of campaign contributions and lobbying from the fossil fuel industry?" Sanders said. "Let's talk about climate change."

Like Clinton, Sanders has also spoken against extracting oil on federal lands.
