A South Hero woman killed during a two-vehicle crash last month in Colchester was drunk when her car crossed the center line on U.S. 7, Colchester police say.

Ledora Harrington, 66, was driving north in a 2013 Kia Rio when she drove into the southbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by Steven Austin, 53, of Essex Junction at about 7:10 p.m. Jan. 10, the police said Wednesday.

Harrington's blood alcohol content was 0.209 percent, according to the findings of the investigation, the police said. The amount was nearly three times the legal limit for driving of 0.08.

Harrington also had depressants in her system during the crash on Munson Flats a half-mile south of Coon Hill Road, Colchester Lt. Doug Allen said.

The road was closed for about five hours after the wreck.

Austin's 2007 Ford Explorer was towing a utility trailer, police said. Austin and his passengers, Debra Austin, 53, and Stephanie Austin, 26, were taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

After the crash, a second wreck was reported. A northbound 2004 Hyundai Elantra driven by Kathryn Bombard, 55, of Milton struck Harrington's Rio, police said. Bombard was uninjured.

Sgt. James Roy said all people involved in the incident were wearing seat belts.

The investigation was conducted in conjunction with a Vermont State Police accident reconstruction team.
