Public invited to Snelling memorial

A memorial service for former Lt. Gov. Barbara Snelling, who died last week, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.

Snelling was married to former Vermont Gov. Richard Snelling. After his death, Snelling continued public service as lieutenant governor from 1993 to 1997, and then as a state senator for Chittenden County. She died Nov. 2 at age 87.

The memorial service is open to the public and is expected to be held in the House Chamber of the Statehouse in Montpelier, followed by a reception in the Statehouse's Cedar Creek Room.

Gov. Peter Shumlin and Lt. Gov. Phil Scott are expected to attend.
