SOUTH BURLINGTON – Vermont State Police say a South Burlington man may have been impaired when he crashed his motorcycle on Interstate 89 in South Burlington late Sunday afternoon.

Aaron Hogan, 28, was southbound on I-89 a mile south of the cloverleaf exit with Williston Road when he lost control of his motorcycle about 4:55 p.m., authorities said.

Hogan and his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle were found in the median by State and South Burlington Police along with South Burlington Fire and Rescue.

South Burlington Rescue transported the operator with unspecified injuries to the University of Vermont Medical Center, Trooper Thomas Howard said.

Police met with Hogan at the hospital and they noted the operator was showing signs of impairment, Howard said in a news release. He said due to Hogan’s injuries, no preliminary breath sample was obtained from him.

State police took Hogan into custody for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, Howard said. He said Hogan agreed to provide an evidentiary sample of his blood, which will be analyzed.

Possible criminal charges are pending based on the blood test results and the completion of the crash investigation.

Due to the nature of the crash, southbound was slowed on I-89 in the area and reduced to one lane of traffic travel for about a half hour.

There was moderate damage to the motorcycle, police said. The weather was clear and the road dry.

Howard urged anybody who witnessed the crash to call state police at 878-7111.
