A car traveling on Beebe Lane in Williston left the roadway Sunday and overturned into about two feet of water, trapping the driver and a dog, said Williston Fire Department Senior Firefighter Prescott Nadeau.

A firefighter looks over a car that flipped onto its side in Williston on Sunday evening.

Fire departments from Williston and Hinesburg helped free the female driver and her dog within 10 minutes of the woman's call to emergency services, Nadeau told the Burlington Free Press. The car had flipped over onto its passenger side around 3:30 p.m. and the woman had been unable to get out on her own, he said.

The crash occurred into what Nadeau described as a tributary of Lake Iroquois, which is bordered by Williston, Hinesburg and Richmond. A bridge on Beebe Lane goes over the tributary, and the car went off the roadway near the bridge, Nadeau said.

The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was transported by Williston Rescue to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Nadeau said.

Williston Police Department also responded to the scene. A dispatcher with the town's police said a news release would be issued later Sunday by the agency, and officers were continuing to deal with the incident around 5 p.m.

Due to the unknown depth of the water, assistance was also requested from Colchester Technical Rescue. Assistance was canceled once firefighters arrived on scene and assessed the situation, Nadeau said.

The dog was uninjured in the incident, Nadeau said.
