Obama must lead on nuclear disarmament

Dear President Obama:

In 2009 you promised to abolish all nuclear weapons and now, in 2014, it turns out we have been stockpiling and updating nuclear warheads that endanger your children and mine — in fact all the children in the world.

We already know that it would take only a few hundred bombs to pulverize every major city in the world. Must we continue to live with the threat of nuclear annihilation hanging over our heads? Nobody wants a nuclear war, so somebody has to take the initiative to reduce nuclear dangers in all countries.

Since we are the worst offender, and since we are the only nation that has used nuclear weapons — God forgive us — I wish you would tap your enormous influence to achieve international nuclear disarmament, as you originally promised.

You, the Nobel Prize winner, couldn't leave a more meaningful legacy.

It's time we made friends in the world, not enemies.
