University of Vermont police have released the name of the construction worker who fell to his death from the top of a planned residence hall — a distance of about 75 feet.

Officials gather Thursday morning at the site of a new dormitory at UVM where a construction worker fell to his death.

Dennis R. Longe, 61, of Jeffersonville was pronounced dead after the fall that happened at about 6:40 a.m. Thursday, according to a statement from University of Vermont Police Services.

"UVM Police are continuing the investigation into the tragic death yesterday of Mr. Longe," police said in a statement Friday afternoon. The Vermont Occupational Health and Safety Administration also is investigating the death.

Longe, an employee with Engelberth Construction, was working on the new first-year residence hall at UVM's Central Campus. UVM Police Chief Lianne Tuomey said Thursday that the man fell from the top floor of the seven-story structure.

"Our thoughts continue to be with the Longe family for their loss," police added Friday.
