Car suspended on wires, GPS blamed

Burlington Free Press

A driver turned too quickly and ended up with the car suspended vertically on guide wires attached to a utility pole, Vermont State Police said.

Police say crash occurred after the driver followed GPS directions to turn too rapidly.

Nabila Altahan, 30, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, was driving on U.S. 4 in Mendon shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday with a passenger. When the GPS alerted the driver to turn around, Altahan reacted quickly and with enough speed to propel the car up the wires as it left the road, police said.

Police arrived to find the car with its front end in the air on top of the wires. Neither occupant was injured.

Vermont State Police, Rutland City Fire Department and Green Mountain Power responded to the crash at the intersection of Meadow Lake Drive and U.S. 4.
