"They were brazen. They had to know what they were doing," Jessy Amblo of Ferrisburgh said. His chickens which were a cross between Rhode Island and New Hampshire red, range freely during the day. Only at night were they in their coop.

The chickens were taken between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to a State Police report.

Amblo explained that chickens are docile when sleeping, and therefore easy to steal. He warned that he now has automatic lights in addition to the cameras currently on the property. His cameras failed to capture the chicken thieves due to poor exposure.

State Police have ruled out predators.

In Saturday's Weybridge theft, according to a police report, the suspect(s) made off with two 30-gallon metal feed bins filled with grain for the livestock.

The victim came forward due to the report of the stolen chickens, the police report said.

CORRECTION: State Police Officer Justin Busby confirmed on Wednesday that though the Weybridge victim identified one of his missing birds as a peacock, the female bird in question is properly termed a peahen.
