ST. ALBANS - A national phenomenon of creepy or threatening clowns has made it to Vermont.

Two students told a police officer assigned to Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans they had received text messages from someone identifying themselves as "Clide Daklowns." The texts indicated that clowns were coming to scare BFA and Missisquoi Valley Union school students this Friday, according to a police statement.

The investigators determined the messages were coming from a student who attends another Vermont high school, the police report stated.

Detectives from St. Albans interviewed the student found no credible threat.

"We are aware of BFA St. Albans receiving numerous calls the past two days in regards to threats from clowns, however the St. Albans Police Department has no information that there has been any threat here in St Albans," police wrote in a statement.

Police asked that people who can provide assistance in the clown case call the St. Albans Police Department at 802-524-2166.

Reports of threatening clowns had spread to at least 10 states as of Tuesday morning.
