Colchester home gets dramatic DIY Network makeover
If you’ve ever dreamed of owning lakeside property in Colchester, this may be your chance: The DIY Network is giving away a remodeled two-bedroom, two-bathroom home, or in the network’s words, an “ultimate retreat.”
The DIY Network says the value of the furnished home is more than $1,000,000.
The 2,100 square foot home, at 21 Point Red Rock Road according to the Colchester town clerk’s office, is assessed at $557,400 on the current grand list.
In true makeover show fashion, the before and after pictures of the 1960s ranch-style home are dramatic. The photos show major renovations, such as new windows punched through walls and doors where windows once stood.
Gone are the wood-paneled walls and similarly toned furniture and in their place bright white walls and vibrant furniture with contrasting accents. The network calls the design “rustic meets refined.”

From two decks off the back of the house a long wooden staircase winds down to the property’s 250-feet of Lake Champlain frontage that includes a dock.
Red House builders and Don Welch Architecture, both based in Burlington, were hired to remodel the house. The interior designer was Elizabeth Demos, from Savannah, Georgia. The project manager was Dylan Eastman, who previously led the DIY Network Blog Cabin makeovers.
The DIY Network’s promotional material fudges the geography a bit by saying the home is in Burlington and touts the city’s “walkable downtown, an abundance of parks and beaches for outdoors enthusiasts, and an exploding foodie scene with craft breweries, chocolateries and fantastic farm-to-table restaurants.”
The remodel is documented room-by-room in the DIY Network Ultimate Retreat 2017 series at 8 p.m. each Monday night in August starting Aug. 7.
The home giveaway sweepstakes runs Aug. 7 through Sept. 27. Online users can enter twice per day at diynetwork.com and HGTV.com.
